Pet Safety Tips For 4th July

14th May 2019

4th of July is a summer holiday filled with fireworks, parties and barbecues. These are all great fun for us, but for pets it can be very frightening and dangerous. Here are some safety tips to ensure your pet is safe during this holiday...

Even if your not celebrating it's important to be prepared for anything to happen. In fact more pets will go missing on 4th of July than any other day of the year.

Keep pets at home

Any loud fireworks or crowds can be very distressing to animals, so avoid taking them with you to any events. Leaving your pet when in a car when it's warm outside even for a short time can be very dangerous.

Identification

Ensure your pet has proper identification tags encase they run off and this will help any local neighbors contact you if they find your pet. Also, it's a good idea to have your pet micro-chipped with up to date information.

Provide a safe spot

Create a safe quiet place in your house with your pets blanket and bed. Keep any horses and livestock as far away as possible in a safely fenced area. If you're setting off fireworks keep your pets at a safe distance, as they may be tempted to sniff or chase fireworks.

Insect repellents and sunscreen

Buy products that are specially labelled for animals, our sunscreen products can cause vomiting and lethargy.

Food Safety

Alcohol can be poisonous to pets, so avoid leaving your drinks unattended. Don't feed your pets anything from your buffet or BBQ, foods like onions and chocolate can be toxic to animals.

Glow Sticks

It may look cute to accessorise your pet in glow sticks, but if consumed can cause health problems.
